I was watching TV Sunday morning, surfing through the endless infomercials - I had no idea that there were so many exercise gizmos out there - but anyway - I came upon MSNBC. They were doing a quick bit on boat safety, so I decided to check it out. Here's the deal - they put this reporter in a whaler - it was a 16 ft bare hull, no engine, with a makeshift center console type thing. They attached a rope to the starboard side of the boat at about midships, ran it under the hull to the other side and attached the other end to a coast guard runabout. Then, the runabout gunned it and flipped the whaler in the blink of an eye! The point of the exercise was to review what to do if this should happend to you (i.e. don't stay under the hull, get on top of the overturned boat, stay with the boat - don't swim for it)

It was a really good segment, and had some great safety information. They even showed how to make an emergency life jacket with your pants!

Anyway, I noticed that by using the unsinkable hull, they would be able to focus on the story, making sure to talk about all the safety issues - any other hull that they might have used may have sunk before they could finish the story!
