I am looking at a Sea Drive OMC. I think it is a 1985. What is the difference between this and other motors? Does anyone know anything about them? See it at

The best advice I can give you is "don't even think about buying one of those!" OMC no longer supports the Sea Drive mechanism for them. They are now being removed from boats by the dozens, as the boats that came with them are being repowered. They're basically throw-aways or give-aways. They were installed on full transom boats only. BW dropped the use of them mostly by 1987. You would be making a huge mistake to put one of these on your boat, unless it is replacing a current identical model.

I second lhg's advise. I have several friends who had Sea Drives and they had LOTS of problems with them.

philipat: Just wondering - What were you planning to do with the Sea Drive engine?
How would you have used it?
