Recently purchased a 1988 17 Montauk. I was told the cooler seat was 72 QT, but this is smaller than my current seat. What other sizes were offered. I am also installing a fish finder and wanted to know the best location for the transducer. Would like to mount it inside if the hull is solid in the sump area. Thanks for any help. Rick

Rick, my Montauk owners manual sez the following about x-ducers, "Transducers must be transom mounted. The transducer should be mounted in a clean flow of water. Check to make sure it is mounted away from spray strakes and so as not to interfere with trailering and trailer bunks. Most transducers will act as a small trim tab affecting hull trim. Transducers should be mounted on the port side, or on center to provide lift or have a neutral effect on the trim." Don

Check out my 5/22/00 posting and the replies in the performance forum. Mounting the transducer 8 inches from the centerline was the magic number for me. It is mounted on the starboard side as I have a kicker motor on the port. Good luck with your project. John

Thanks for the help. I found the earlier article and mounted 8" to port and it seems to work fine. Rick

Rick, regarding the cooler size, your boat, and any Outrage with a standard sized console, came with the Igloo 86qt cooler.
In 1989, Igloo brought out their re-designed cooler line, and the 86 became a 94qt. But for some reason, BW switched to the smaller size, the 72qt. Never understood this, since I agree, the 72 is a bit narrow for two to sit. I'd go with a 94. I think Dave's Etc still makes the tan pleat matching cushions.

I'm not sure a 94 qt Igloo will fit flat
on the deck of a Montauk. My measurements
said it wouldn't. However, a 92 qt Gott,
which tapers in at the bottom, does fit
quite nicely. I adapted the seat pad for
some sort of Igloo (maybe a 94) to fit the
Gott by adding some snaps to the Gott and to
the straps on the pad.

Does anyone know the correct cooler for a 25 Outrage with a super console. The 94 is too deep.

Thanks, Larry

It's the 162 quart Igloo. Highly recommended. I have one on mine, and I liked the large size, and big seat so well, I put one in my 18 Outrage also.
