I recently purchased a 1985 Montauk in tremendous shape. I was wondering if anyone out there can help me identify a seat the original owner said came in the boat and he removed it and put a cooler seat in its place.
The seat spans the width of the console and is approximately 18" width. It is supported by 2 curved stainless legs which mount on to the console and the floor. There are 2 teathers with snaps which attach to the console. There are no other mounting points. It appears a 54 qt cooler could fit under it but not the 72 qt. Sear has Boston whaler manufacturing tag attached.

Thanks for the help

I don't know if this will help 1979 20' Outrage has the same seat. It was original from the factory. there was never a cooler under it and I don't think one will fit very well. I would think on a Montauk it would be very tight. Mine has a cushion top on it made by Whaler, held on to the brackets with a piece of alum. angle iron and the straps you describe. It might be the standard setup if the boat was not ordered with a cooler seat?? Scott.

Hey Scott, thanks for the reply, your right about the tight fit, but its a real nice seat and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. My local dealer in New Jersey did not know anything about it even though he has been a dealer for many years. wonder if anyone else has such a seat?

I think you guys are talking about the Whaler Front seat option, which began with the 71 21' Outrage. It was originally designed, in Whaler tan pleat, for a Porta Potti to fit underneath. It was offered as an option on the Montauks, but the 86 qt cooler seat option (later changed to 72 qt when Igloo redesigned their cooler line) proved much more popular.

Thanks for the reply, I guess it was so unpopular that not many folks know anything about it. I think after checking that I will pack the seat away as it seems to really take up too much space

The seat I am talking about is the seat in the rear of the boat that goes from one side to the other. The seat came w/ a bracket under the seat on each side, however; there has to be what I assume a flat bracket to mount to the sides of the boat on each side. Is this correct? I have never seen how a sternseat mounts.

I just posted a couple of pics of the seat on my web site.
