Well I can give you my opinion. A few years back I had a 15' whaler and a friend of mine had a wahoo 16'.To be perfectly honest I think the wahoo was a good boat, But not as good as a whaler. I purchased my 1982 15'whaler used around 1988 or so. My friend purchased his wahoo new a few years before, 1986 I think. It was one of those early models that looked almosy exactly to a whaler. Well I can tell you the two of us used the heck out of those boats. We were in high school at the time and really rode those boats hard. Sometime in college my friend sold his 16' wahoo and soon there after bought a used 21' wahoo. He used the heck out of it fishing. I still had my 15' whaler and it looked none the less from wear. I had it for almost 10 years and sold it for almost as much as I paid for it. Can't do that with a wahoo! My friend did ok when he sold his 16', he got almost half of what he paid for it. Not many small used boats can be sold for as much. Well somewhere in all of this I bought a used 1987 18' outrage and love it! My friend has since bought a large glacier bay catamaran and has been trying to sell that 21' wahoo for months, and it has a newer motor. I sold my 15' before the add hit the trader. Pretty good for a 15 year old boat I must say. Bottom line is; You can buy a used whaler and have it last forever! It's still almost like buying it new, but if you buy a used wahoo your buying a boat that, while is still a good boat,is on its LAST LEG! They are not built as well and not as unsinkable as whaler! Good luck! |
