Just looked at 84 Outrage 18. The interior deck on both sides of the deck insert was soft, all the way from front to rear. Is this a common problem on the Outrage? Thansk,

Zack

Zack, I own a 84 18 Outrage, the only spot that I would say is "soft" is back by the rear sump area (lack os screw and controlcables force it up). Other than that the deck is solid.

Pop the deck plates and look or probe for alot of water/moisture.

I have an 18.6 (1985) Outrage, and my floor is quite solid.

I removed the floor (and console) during a refit, and I almost REPLACED the original floor with 3 pieces of expanded aluminum just because the original floor was SO heavy! The aluminum would look good, be as strong or stronger, and probably weigh 1/3 as much.
I'd keep the original in case I ever wanted to go back to original style. Food for thought. Tell us more about the 18 you're looking at - $, condition, what state (Georgia, Florida, etc). Best, Chuck the Maverick in Aiken, SC

When the 18 outrage was introduced, there were over 100 defective hulls sent out in 83 & 84. Most were replaced under the warranty.
That could be one they missed. I'd take a pass on it. The problems were related to extremely wavy sides, and the floor area you refer to is adjacent to those areas.

Thanks for the info. I did pass on the boat, just not what I was looking for. The boat was in Houston, Tx w/ rebuilt 1994 Yahama 150 and trailer that needed lots of work. The asking price was $10950. Way too much for a boat in the condition it was. I'll just keep looking for the one that I really want. Zack
