My dealer has a left over 2000 13' Sport with 30HP Merc. With trailer and mooring cover he is willing to part for $8,000. Is this reasonalbe.

My experience has been with high performance Personal Watercraft and Rinker Performance ski boats runing OMC's 175 or 200hp, so this is a little new to me.

I will be runing on a large lake and using it to pull two preteen grandsons on skis.

The dealer is willing to move up to a 40Hp and get a new CG plate to make it more like the 2001. My personal choice would be to go for a 40HP Honda.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Polaris-

Sounds like a great deal (most of the 2000 w/ 30's went for at least $7995.00) This is a question that I had brought up earlier in the forum, can a dealer just change a factory CG max rated HP plate? If so, I would say go for it, most of the 2001 13 sports w/ 40's I've seen have been offered at at least $9,500.00

Sorry, I reread your post, did you mean the dealer was going to move up to a 40HP for $8000.00. then yes a 2000 sport 13w/ a 40hp Merc for that amt is a good deal.

No, the $8,000 was for the 30hp. We did not talk about the price to move to the 40. I was suprised he was willing to do so.

My major concern is if it will pull a young skier.

Polaris, $8000 sounds like alot. In 2000 I could have bought a 2000 model with my choice of a 30h.p. 2-stroke or a 25h.p. 4-stroke for $7500. If I were you I would try to swing a deal for about $6500-$7000 for the leftover 2000, remember this guy seems willing to do anything to sell it. It makes me nervous that their willing to swap out the capacity plate, I don`t know if that is legal? The 2001 has you`re choice of 25h.p. 4-stroke or a 40h.p. 2-stroke Classic. Good luck and don`t give him $8000 for a leftover 2000. Regards-Jack Graner.

I realize your boat is the new hull, and my skiing experience is with a 1976 13' boat.

I learned to ski behind that boat with a 25 hp Evinrude. Everyone in our family would ski on it, including my 170 lb father. And we would slalom, although you had to drop a ski. It would not get you up on one ski (a primary reason we moved to a 15' with a 70 hp).

So, either should be adequate, and neither would get you up on one ski. I'd get the 40 if price was reasonable, but the 30 should be fine.

We just got a USED year 2000 13' Sport for $6,900, with trailer and the 30hp Merc that comes "standard"; and took her out on our maiden voyage this afternoon. Once up on plane, the 30 seemed pretty fast and strong. [I'll have to go out again, not on the maiden voyage with my maiden, to really put her through the paces.]

A dealer where my Bride shopped [she got it for me for CHRISTMAS!], a Whaler dealer, told her that they step up the 30hp to a 40hp, modifying the motor, for about $200.

Looking at the specs on the motor, it looks like it is not that different from the 40 and I believe the guy.

It has a CG plate saying max is 30, but it is, as previously observed, the same hull, etc., as the year 2001 with the CG plate saying max of 40hp.

Here is the question: is the CG plate merely advisory?

Bill-

Wow, and all I got was socks! Let me know what you end up doing as far as the motor upgrade goes, I am looking at a 1981 13 sport with a 98 30HP Merc. and I would be very interested in having a dealer upgrade it to a 40 if it was only $200.00. I think from what others have said, that the only diff. is in the carbs.
