I have a pre 72' 16 ft Whaler I am redoing as a Nauset. I will need to be able to tow other boats from time to time and am interested in attaching a towing post in the stern. I found a device in an older Whaler boat that looks like a beefed up ski post with aft facing supports attached at the transome. I also am interested in adding midship cleats for spring lines for use in towing. Is there a way to add these cleats with a backing plate or other suitable support to keep them from pulling out?

rwest: I know of a boat across the bay that is used solely for towing. They have a post in the stern. I will try to get a photo to you if you provide an e-mail address. ps if you put one in don`t forget a suitable bedding compound and stainless lags!!!(Sikaflex 4200 or 5200)
