Just wondering...I had only known the term 'Whaler Brow' for the destinctive bow shape before this forum. Anyone know where 'smirk' came from? I can never figure out how it looks like a smirk.

I hadn't heard of the "Whaler brow" before.

It has a nice sound to, mainly from the closeness of "bow" and "brow."

BROW: n. 1. (Anatomy) the ridge over the eye....

That is a pretty good description of what the bow of a classic Whaler looks like!

SMIRK: v.i. 1. To smile in an affected or offensively familiar way....

Maybe not as descriptive of the bow of a Whaler?
