I've got some questions for those of you running Mills canvas on your Montauks. I know the Mills canvas system is concidered superior to the current Whaler canvas & that it stows inward of the bow rail. I'm trying to decide which Mills system to get. The sun top looks nice for general shade when crusing or drift fishing, but there "might" be a few times where I would like to have the ability to camp/sleep on the boat overnight in the Connetticuit river or local lakes. How much deck space does the sun top take up v.s. the flying top & forward shelter when stowed? I've seen some pic's but its hard to tell. Would I still have room to fish from the bow? Are these systems easily removable so I could use just the flying top or no canvas if I wanted too? Is there a difference how fast can you cruise with the different tops, sun top vs the flying top?
Opinions/suggestions please?

Mills sun top stows OUTBOARD of the rails on a Montauk; I don't know how the fly top and forward shelter stow. I do know that both the fly top and the sun top can be installed with quick connect pins at the hinge slides; I don't think you can use pins for the forward shelter, but at worst you might have to remove four pin screws.

See post in this section dated 02-17-01. You should e-mail "compounder" since he is probably your best and most recent source of info on Mills for the Montauk
