I want to buy a used whaler for water skiing. It seems like the 18 foot or 20 foot ventura is best suited for recreational use. When I looked for used venturas I mainly found year 1988 for sale. Was this a problem year for this boat? Is there a better boat to use for skiing? I want a boat that I can trailer and use in fresh water as well as the ocean. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you, Al

If you're interested in going to a dealer, call Nauset Marine in Orleans, I seem to remember them advertising a 20' Nauset at a really low price (very unlike them)I'm not sur if there was a problem with the boat, or if it was a mis-print, but it might be worth the look.

By the way, I went to school right down the road from you at WNEC. i used to ride up the Whaler dealer in Ludlow (I think), I'm pretty sure they're no longer a dealere though.

Good Luck

Al, you do meen 1998 not 1988 right? They didn`t make Venturas in 88`. Anyway the `17 Dauntless(not made anymore) would be the perfect combo for you. They usually have 125-135h.p. outboards, trailerable, stable and side console with open bow with seating. I drove one in 95`. I didn`t like the No-Feedback Steering or the Rubrail, everything else was top notch. The rubrail is really fat and ugly, the Barbour 3 peice is much nicer. The steering was tight and hard to turn, although that was my first taste of N-Feedback Steering? I am used to Pulley and Rack steering. Good luck-Jack Graner.

My original question should have been for a 1998 ventura.
