I recently bought a 1982 Outrage 18.
The console on this boat seems smaller than others I've seen. The guy I bought it from said that it is original, but it looks almost like it was meant for a Montauk 17.
Does anyone know anything about this?
I have only seen one other outrage with this type of console it also was an 82 Outrage but to was a 20 footer

Any help would be apprieciated!

I've owned both an '85 Montauk and an '86 Outrage 18'. The 18' has a couple switch plates under the wheel that the Montauk lacked, but otherwise the basic consoles are identical.

As dreid points out, Montauk consoles and Outrage consoles are the same thing (apart from wiring). The design of the console itself changed in (I think) '83. The newer design has a raised surface on the starboard side for mounting the binnacle mount control(s)

Actually there were two consoles offered during this time for the 18. The standard console (which is what you have) and the Super Console. The super being of course larger in every respect. It seems to my casual observation, that very few 18s were ordered with this option. I have seen the console on larger 80s ORs. They would probably be a little out of scale on the 18.

I have a '86 18' Outrage with a super console. At times, this is a very nice option. You can certainly store more stuff in the console and it is a great wind break when it is cold and raining. However, when the boat is on the trailer the top of the windshield is 9' off the ground. This makes inside storage difficult(impossible) in a regular garage. Also the console takes up a lot of room on a relatively small boat. And you have to stand to operate the boat at any speed. All in all I think I would prefer the smaller console.
