I sent off an email to Mills Canvas for pricing on a cover and the reply was that the model that I thought I had, had not been made in the year I specified. Here is what I think I have-
16' 7" desert tan color, GLS (has the side console molded with a front and rear bench seats) Serial number BWCM 6597 C989
Am I right or??
Thanks for the help
Chris

It sounds like a "super sport limited 17". The SSL had port and stbd molded consoles which you could walk between. It also featured a molded front and rear bench seat. The most unique feature was a molded rear cover which was hinged on the molded seat back of the rear bench seat. It was the most expensive of all the 17's that year, listing at $9985 ($760 more than a Montauk!)

I was thinking the same thing except the console I have is only on the starboard side, with an area to stand to the port. The bench seats go all the way from side to side, and there are no seat backs. No wood anywhere. I will look for the next answer.

They are right the GLS wasn't made in '89 --- however it might have been made as a '90 model made in '89 --- not sure when the GLS --- Sport Series was introduced which included the 11, 13 and 17 --- all glass interior --- nice maintenance free boats ---

One sure way to get the specific information is email BW's customer service with the serial number they will tell you exactly what you have and when it was made ---

I might suggest the next time you contact Mills use their "800" number then you and Leslie will be able to figure out what you need and give you a price right then and now!

BigZ hit it on the head. You guys aren't giving enough credit to the Reference section of this website, which shows all the models and years they were made! If the wheel is mounted at a 45 degree angle, its a 1990 GLS. So often, model years on boats get confused with manufacturing dates, probably the result of personnel at the licensing departments, looking at the VIN's as boats change hands, and thinking they're being super smart! As an example, probably in this case, the boat was made Aug-Dec 1989, but since the new models come out about Sept, is a 1990 boat. Try that with Mills and you'll be alright.

AS A GENERAL GUIDE, IF THE VIN # SHOWS MONTH OF MANUFACTURE JAN-JULY, THE MODEL YEAR IS SAME AS THE VIN YEAR. IF IT'S AUG-DEC, IT'S THE NEXT MODEL YEAR FROM THE VIN YEAR.

Further to the above, the automobile industry seems to have avoided this problem, by coding the VIN (with a 10th digit letter)with the MODEL years. I wonder why the boating industry hasn't done this? Sure has accounted for a LOT of confusion with Classic Whalers.

Thanks for the help. Yes, the wheel is at 45 degrees.
Thanks again and I'am sure to be back.

If anybody's interested, there is picture of a same year 13' GLS in the 13' Reference section, showing this console as described by Bajachief.
