I have a 18" military surplus whaler hull. It has high sides and a rounded V. Any idea of background on this hull and some tips for making a center console from scratch. Any links would be helful.

Tell us more. Is it a fairly recent model? Sounds like it could be a new style 18 Outrage, but I think they were only built in 98 and 99. No other Whaler around 18' seems to fit the description.

It is a 1970 model. Hull in good shape. Interior bare with navy gray peeling pani and afew siperweb cracks. Reday to do bottom. Is new gel coat only option or will epoxy paint do the job.

Bob - I'm totally confused. In 1970, Whaler's largest boat was 16' 7", with a 21 introduced late in the year. None had high sides. Only the rounded V sounds familiar. Boston Whaler's first boat of 18' length was in late 1981. Sure it's a Whaler? Scan through some of the Cetacea pictures and see if you can find one that looks like it.
