found a montauk today for 8k. The guy says its been in his garage and is like new. Im meeting him wednesday with the cash. Anyone think this isnt a good price(if the boat is as he says). By the way it has a 91 evenrude that is supposed to have less than 100 hrs.

Consider the following: Make sure the guy has valid titles before turning over the money. Pay with a certified check. I wouldn't want to carry that much cash around. If he's original owner, ask to see paperwork, owner's manual, receipts, maintenance records, etc. Bring a mechanic, or a friend to check engine. And good luck it sounds like a great deal. |

I recently purchased a 1977 Montauk with a 1990 Johnson 88SPL for $7,500. Boat and trailer are in excellent shape (all teak glistens and is in perfect shape; trailer recently refurbished); motor has 900 hours, but runs very well and has been well taken care of. I had been on this boat many times before. I shopped a bit, and it seemed like a good deal to me. If the boat and motor you're looking at are as you say, it seems like a great deal to me. |
