I talked a good friend of mine who wanted Boston Whaler into getting an 18'6 classic Outrage with a 140 Johnson VRO. He wanted it for the Alantic Ocean to take the family in and for going to islands for camping. He now thinks the boat is to much to handle by himself and he thinks he would like to trade me for my 17 Newport with 70 Evinrude. I have always loved the 18'6 Outrage....but I also like my Newport. I use it for the same thing he does but my kids now enjoy tubing and water skiing....Would I be happy with the Outrage for skiing anyone with any experience ?? Also I tow with a Toyota Sienna and it is rated for 3500 lbs...would the Outrage be over that wth a 140 and a new tandem axle galvanized trailer ??? Again what would you do ??? Thanks Larry

I had an 18 Outrage which I just sold this spring. In my opinion, the 18 is much more boat than a 17 Newport, although not too much to handle. The fellow I sold it to had a 17 Montauk which he said he liked very much....that was until I took him for a ride in the 18. He was extremely impressed with its dry smooth ride in a two foot chop. If you like your Newport, then I think you would really like the 18 Outrage. It would be just fine for skiing and tubing with a 140. While I'm not sure of the exact rigged weight, my guess is that the boat, motor, fuel, gear and trailer will weigh in well under 3000lbs, probably more on the order of about 2500lbs. If it were me, I'd do it in a second.

I have done plenty of skiing and tubing with my 18. The 140 will be plenty of power; the only problem I've had tubing is that with the harness attached to the lifting eyes, the tow line tends to drag in the wake. A ski pylon would remedy this. Great boat -- go for it!!!
