What would be a fair price for a 1995 Dauntless, 17', 90hp Evinrude and E-Z loader trailer. Excellent condition freshwater only. Owner wants 15k.

Yes, 15k is fair if nice condition. Does engine have hour meter? Any other equipment? bimini, cover, cushions, fishing station, VHF, fishfinder, etc, would all add to value. Any specific questions e-mail me. I own one. Good all around versitile boat. Cruising, fishing, etc. Deep V and handles the chop well for a 17'. 90 will be ok probably around 35mph. I have 115 and it does about 42mph and adequate power. Offer 1K less if you like the boat and see what they say.Mark |

Just an FYI,Regarding comments from the Rage guy. 15k is not close to new price, list was around $25 K new and there is no comparison between Rage and Dauntless. You will see Rages for sale everywhere at fire sale prices for a reason: they don't suit most peoples needs. Besides, I think this Rage guy was up too late if you see his other posts. Mark |

The only other options were ski pylon, bow cushion, bow cover, and electric anchor. Thanks for your help, I'm going to see it today. Paul |

I know of a Dauntless in the Dallas area you can probably buy for around 12-13,000. E-mail me if interested |

$15K is typical for asking prices in Maine this summer. I have been surprised to see 3 boats advertised, all 96 dauntlesses with 115 power (varying brands), all for $14,900, in our paper in June. My neighbor on the lake bought one. Nice boat, especially for lake use. They seem to sell for less than an equivalent outrage, I'm not sure if they sold for less when new. I'd guess they cost more to make, with the extra glasswork and assembly of the dash, and the extra upholstry.Upon seeing my friends, my wife asked "why didn't you buy one of those?" The days she goes out are usually calm days and short trips, for which the Dauntless is ideal, with all its seating. But I bought it for longer saltwater trips, and I really like to stand when I drive. Still, the Dauntless is a great boat, and certainly a better value used at $15K for a 4 year old boat. Good luck! Ooops, just noticed that you were looking at a boat with 90HP, and I was talking about 115 power. I'd test the boat out, especially if you are looking to ski with it. The one I've been in has a 115 Ocean Pro, and power is fine for skiing. But I beleive max power for the hull is 150, so 90 is getting toward the low end. If you want to cruise with just a few folks, It will probably be great. |

Max power is rated at 130HP. When "Boating" magazine tested it in '95 it had a 90HP Merc and they felt it had enough HP to ski behind. They gave it "Boat of the Year" award. My '97 with a 125 would porpoise easily with just a little trim and very sensitive to weight distribution. I believe the lighter weight of the 90HP along with a 4 blade SS prop would be the best setup. |

I looked at a new 95` `17 Dauntless with trailer, and all options,a 125h.p. Merc, but not the electric winch. It was $17, 500 in July(1995) in Cleveland, Ohio. It had the Teal striping(Yuck!). So $15,000 sounds very high, I would offer $10, 500 and go from there. Regards-Jack Graner. |
