I'm looking at a 17' Sport, Its in excellent condition except for a 6" X 2" damaged spot on the sponsoon(?). The 70hp & 6hp OMC's are also '79, galvanized trailer. Any thoughts on what a fair value would be? I've always wanted a Whaler and this might be the one. I've read everything on thes great site and am concerned about the repairability of the damage. I'm sure thankful that I found this site, what a great rescourse for the "Classic Whaler"

I know this is nearly impossible to do without seeing the boat and kicking the tires but any educated $$$ range would be appreciated.
P.S. Boat has been in storeage for several years and hasn't been in saltwater.

What are they asking? 79 with damage, trailer? I would say $3-5k if nice wood, etc and engines run great. Do a compression test and check lower unit oil. Is damage below water line? Motors are not worth $1500 together so that is why I priced it in a range.

browning20gauge: Back in April there was a link entitled "OT - Big Boy's Toys". I admire your apparent taste in toys, both Whaler, Browning, and gauge. I am awaiting pickup this Friday of a new 20 gauge Weatherby Athena Grade V O/U on which they are increasing length of pull to 15 3/4" for me. Sorry about the off-subject posting, folks, but I am just about too excited to sleep!

Thanks, Bigshot for the quick reply. I've only seen pictures emailed to me but it looks beautiful except for the hull damage. He is asking $5k, I told him it looked more like a $4k boat, all things beeing considered. I offered to meet him half way at $4500.00. So I guess we are in the ballpark, thanks again for the info.

And Mike, you are the man, a Whaler and a new Athena (Grade V no less), congratulations I bet you are excited. I'm 6'3" and that extra LOP would be sweet, Good Luck
