Schollis,

I have many Boston Whaler brochures going back to 1969. It appears that the 16 SL hull was unique to that model. I believe that it was made from only 1991 to 1993, during the time that Reebook owned Boston Whaler.

I have not seen one of these boats for years. There were not many made. Here are the spec's and some additional information

Length: 15' 6"; Beam: 6' 6"; Draft: 10"; Weight: 1025 Lbs; Swamped capacity: 2500; Lbs.; Minimum size engine to plane with a light load: 55HP; Maximum size engine: 90HP; Engine shaft: 20”; Fuel tank capacity: 24 gallons.

The boat has a fairly deep-vee hull that’s rounded at the stern, a non-classic whaler looking bow, and much higher freeboard than the classic 15 footer. I believe it has higher freeboard than the Montauk 17. It also has a 4" wider beam than the 17. It has port and starboard consoles with numerous built-in storage compartments, including an insulated cooler, with padded seat above, molded into the front of each console. It has 2 pedestal swivel seats aft of the consoles. Flanking the motor well are port and starboard seats with storage compartments underneath. Aft port and starboard storage compartments are molded-in under the cockpit sole. They look to be about 1.5' x 1'. I expect that they are fairly shallow inside. There is a huge (for a small boat) under-sole centerline compartment about 6' x 1.5'. It was designed to hold numerous water skies or lots of fish. Towards the bow there is an anchor locker, similar to other Whalers.

In conclusion, this looks like a great, very well though out boat, with many features that you wouldn't expect to see until you get into larger boats. As to whether or not the 16 SL is a good performing boat, I have no idea.

There is one for sale on www.YachtWorld.com and another one for sale on www.SoundingsPub.com.

Happy hunting.
