Why is the "sump" or bilge off center? I just noticed it on a boat that I am looking into buying. My 17 is centered as well as my 13.

I don't know why but I could guess:

--to move the drain outlet off centerline to keep it out of the area near the engine

--to align with the tunnel on the center console models, but to keep the tunnel off centerline so as not to weaken the boat's structure right above the keel centerline

My guess is that in the 13's & 17's that had it first, people put the battery in the middle between the tanks. This blocked the sump. With the 15, they got wise and moved it. Actually I believe that they had the bass 15 with the tunnel going off center towards the off center console. This would line them up. FYI my 1983 15' CC had a centered sump.

I used to keep my 15 on a ramp and the vent, had it been centered, would have been crushed or at least would have prevented me storing it that way.

Come to think of it, it's my first boat so I'm sure it would have been crushed before I noticed... :)
