I have a 1981 Newport that has been converted to a center console. The boat is functional, but looks a litle rough on the eyes. It has a 1981 Evinrude, that is going to either need to be rebuilt (not the best choice), or repowered. My quandry is this: I could put the dough into fixing this boat up and making it very nice, but I think I would rather sink my efforts into an 18 Outrage if I could find one.

When I bought the Newport, it was an auction boat from the Sea Scouts. It had a hole in the starboard side, about 10 inces above the waterline. I have since had that repaired. It is bottom painted, and I would prefer to remove it. The interior and deck has been painted with marine enamel, and it looks pretty shoddy.

I love projects, but I don't know if I have the patience to do the current boat up right. Any suggestions?

People will pay good money for a bad whaler. Sell it and get what you want. You will never be satisfied and it will cost twice as much as a clean original.
