Just something I do..go to microsoft's terraserver site and locate satelite photos of the bay area you will be at. The photos of Ft Walton/Pensacola area were done in 1999 and really show good detail of sand bars ect. I made a mosaic of the images from the Bob Sikes bridge to the Navarre bridge. Great detail. I am currently working on the same thing for some tidal creeks in GA. Jim Armstrong

Terraserver is great! I use it regularily to get an idea of terrain, access, etc when bidding jobs. Use Topo USA to get lat/long and then the advanced search function on Terraserver. Can also get lat/long from Topozone.com.
I have ordered prints of the sattelite photos in the past and they come out great - more detail and more area than you see on the screen.
Also - I have made mosaics and laminated them to carry in the field.

Maybe this site was mentioned before. The free mapping and charts are very good.
