I was visiting my in-laws this past weekend in Fort Lauderdale. I have a couple of observations about the area. (I would love to hear everybody's opinions about the area….) Here are mine:

You can have Ft. Lauderdale…. It is a complete circus. The traffic and rudeness of the drivers is unfathomable. (Got caught in a traffic jam for 4 hours as I-75 was shut down) My wife's wallet was stolen from her as she shopped at Sawgrass Mall (the mall's security admitted this was a common occurrence).
I spent the whole day I had planned for fishing canceling credit cards.

The high point was Bass Pro Shops in Ft. Lauderdale. What a mecca to hunting and fishing! Anybody that has a chance to visit one of these needs to. 100's of boats for sale ( Mako, Seacraft, Scout, Hewes, etc..)
I did see one unlucky sole purchasing a 29' Mako walkaround with twin 225 Opti's. He had such a smile on his face, I didn't have the heart to tell him to get the Mercury EFIs instead (plus it wasn't my business) Sticker price $135,000!!!

What do ya'll think about Ft. Lauderdale?? Me…… I HATE IT!!!! My father-in-law keeps telling me "yea, I know, but it's so tropical and green down here". Guess what Pops?… I don't care!!!!!

Some of my best times were had in FT. Laud. but that was 1970 spring break. I have relatives that live there. I go for a Miami Dolphin game, do a little fishing, check out the babes on the beach and go home. I can't believe what an old f@#t I'm getting to be.

Sorry Bigshot that word is still not in my latest Merriam Webster Dictionary. Betramp, I must confess that I have to look at my old 1970's photos to remember most of it. All my old buddies that went that are still alive still talk about those times to this day( they get more full of BS every time I hear one). Also Bigshot BS is not in there either. Going Fishing ! Fort Lauderdale remains the only place on the planet that has the vast resoures required to meet any boating need. As a boater you clearly missed many cool sites that you simply would not see in any other community. I know this is true. After all, Outdoor World was the highlight of your trip. You missed it! As with any town there is the good and the bad. The traffic is bad! The reason for this is that soooo many folks, unlike you, find South Florida to be everything your Father-in-law says it is.

I'll continue to settle for being on the northern fringe of the metropolitan blob that runs from south of Miami all the way to northern Palm Beach County (one big suburb). Lauderdale (in the middle) has some awesome waterways which you apparently missed touring. Sure, there are plenty of homes with boats in the back yard so huge that their tender is larger than most of our whalers. Some of the coolest things to see are the 50' sport-fishing boats that nestle Inside a larger mothership to fish off South America. A visit to Lauderdale is always something different, the traffic is usually as you described. Next winter, I'll write and tell you what fun I had waterskiing on Christmas Day. Thanks for not sticking around permanently...

Hey guys wake up! Go to the other side. Everglades City and 1,000 islands is the place to see. Ain't nothing like it around Ft. Lauderdale.

Chris: Where in Alabama are you? What kind of Whaler? And the most important question of all - Blue/Orange or Crimson/White?
