I've had some thoughts of projects for my 1974 16' Whaler this winter and wanted to run them by the "experts" on this site.

I am uncomfortable knowing that my battery sits about a foot above my fuel tanks. I want to remedy this without replacing my wood reversable pilot seat. Has anyone fitted a Tempo fuel tank into the older pilot seats? I think I would be able to dramatically increase my fuel capacity also.

Since I would lose my storage from the pilot seat, I want to open the space under the console by placing a battery box and my fuel filter near the engine. How hard would this be?

Lastly, can anyone give me an estimate in what it would cost to have a 16' boat "re-gel coated"?

Thanks, and I really enjoy this site!!

Cheaper to paint and it shines longer. Gelcoat is a WHOLE different story. I am not a big fan of rear battery placement due to the fact that if it rains too much and the bilge is not working the battery goes under water. No t usually a problem untill every electrical wire etc melts due to the water thing and it is a major deal. I would leave the battery up front.
