I posted on Pperformance section but then thought this section might be more appropriate. Found a 1991 21 ft walkaround with 175 Johnson for $19,900. Only options are electric marine head, Vhf and depth. Questions -is 175 hp enough for this boat. I will carry 4 -5 people quite often. I have read on this site the boat requires trim tabs. Why?
I cannot travel the 8 hours to see it for at least two weeks, anybody know a good surveyor in Long Island, NY?

Have a 21 conquest with 200 hp Merc. I would not want any less hp. Had 6 adults on it the other day and she picks up and gets on plane nicely. And that is what I want. But on the other hand you get a couple 200 pound plus guys on both aft seats and you get a noticably (surprise)slower rise to plane. I'm betting I would not be happy with the performance a 175 would give. As far as trim tabs, I like them on my boat. When on plane for a while with a host of people scattered unevenly around the deck the tabs level the boat so I'm not leaning to the port or starboard, in other words the side with the most people on it. 21 walk around is a deep V I believe, so tabs seem like a good idea as it is probably more likely to lean on plane with an uneven load.
