I'm picking up an '88 Outrage 18, '91 150 hp Evinrude. What kind of performance can I expect? Boat is in Bristol condition, paying him 14K with new chart plotter and color FF.

Everything Mav said plus still easy to trailer and you should expect mid to high 40's for WOT. |

Thanks for the info. What is the best cruising speed for economy, conditions permitting? BTW, saw this boat sold on EBAY, the owner is ecstatic. Tried to sell it for $3500 for a week in the paper, someone paid $4600 that lives 5 miles away. Just an idea for others here.http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1626358609 |

I found that the best cruise speed was about 27 MPH at about 3000 RPM with a 1987 150 Johnson, turning a 21" OMC Raker. |

My '87, 150 Evenrude cruises at 23-27mph @ 3000 rpm with a 19" OMC Viper. I'm still on a break-in period from a recent rebuild so I have not pushed the WOT above 45mph. Has anyone moved from a 19" to 20"or 21" prop ? Or larger ? I'm getting poor g/hr, but part of that is the new motor. How is low end power with the 21"? |

The hole shot was great with the 21 Raker. That prop works best with the motor mounted high on the transom. I wouldn't expect great fuel economy from an '87 150 new, rebuilt or well used because it is an old cross-flow induction design which is less efficient than the more modern loop charged engine designs. |

Thanks for all the replies! Had a chance to trial in 2' chop, was very pleased with the ride, but not stupid or brave enough to open her up. You're right, best cruise seems to be around 3100-3300 RPM. Currently boat is sitting in my back yard awaiting registration next week. Going canyon fishing tomorrow and Sunday, so it goes to the back burner. |
