Starting a new thread from the Garmin 176 posts-

What is the best online store for purchasing marine electronics. I found "GPS Planet" on Yahoo, they had the GPSmap 76 for $309. They had the lowest price I could find except for e-bay. E-bay has the unit for a reserve of $300. Any suggested sites?

Thanks,

Frank

Frank-

I have found Consumer Marine Electronics www.consumersmarine.com to be very professional and helpful. I don't think they are necessarily the least expensive in every instance, but their prices seem to be right in there, and their customer support is outstanding.

Try http://tvnav.com/ . Darryl
has super prices and great service. I've
bought from him a couple of times. You'll
have to call or e-mail for the price.

Consumers Marine Electronics tends to have
about the same prices as West Marine, and
I'd check any facts in their catalog
carefully -- they tend to have a lot of typos. Not fraud, they just need a good
proof reader.

I usually check Boater's World (www.boatersworld.com), Boatfix (www.boatfix.com) and Boatscape (www.boatscape.com). All are reasonably priced. Boatfix is a little cheaper on most items and seems to have a larger selection. Boater's World has free shipping on orders over $100, which can tip the scales in their favor on some items. Boat US and West are usually high bidders, if only by a dollar or two.

Interesting enough when I bought my fish/depth finder, Lowrance X85, I found the best deal on Cabela's web site. Speed & Temperature, 20 degree skimmer transducer, and RAM mount.

I found its best to shop around. I have bought from many of the above places but they all have sales and certain sites have better prices on certain items.

I've checked around and I still can not find anything lower than the Planet GPS site. They have been very responsive to the questions that I have sent via e-mail. Also, the site was ranked with four stars by Yahoo (whatever that is worth). Thanks for the insight to the other sites. I will let you know the response I get from the delivery of the product. The site is....

Here's another one - I can't vouch for them as I've never ordered anything from them, but they're in my archived contacts for some reason... www.onlinemarine.com ...go to their electronics section.

I purchased the Garmin GPSmap 76 with WAAS from Planet GPS. It came in a protected box within no time. The cost was excellent in comparison to anyone else and I was impressed with the personal service via e-mail.

The unit is incredible. I found myself navigating the neighborhood at midnight. I'm relatively young and have good vision but I can see if it starts to fail I may have a harder time seeing the screen. So far, so good.

Thanks,

Frank

By the way. West Marine is having a sale.
$10 off per hundred. $30 off $300 and i think another 10% if you sign up for the west advantage
