In the starboard stern of my 1985 18' Outrage there is a well where the bilge pump, etc. can be accessed. It looks like there may have originally been a cover or plate, rectangular. but there is nothing there now. Any ideas?

Your boat originally had a piece of 7/16" marine grade teak plywood that simply set in the lip around the area you describe. This plywood cover did not cover the entire area but rather left about 3" of the stern most part of it open to accommodate the cables and wiring that exits there.
On the outboard side of this opening there would have been a small aluminum rail end cap which served as a stop for the wood cover and prevented it from sliding towards the stern. This piece of aluminum hardware was secured with a single small oval head sheet metal screw. You should be able to see the hole and thus determine the size of the wood cover.
Of course you can use whatever you want for a replacement, wood, plywood, synthetic, ect. Some Outrage owners have screwed this cover down to prevent it from flying around, as it tends to do in very rough water. Some mount hinges on one side so it can be flipped up easily to access the drain plug.

The original cover on my former 18 Outrage was replaced with a piece of about 3/4 to 1 inch thick dark Lexan. It was thick enough so that it could be stood on. It worked well. As I recall, one corner of the cover was rounded off for a better fit. Can't recall which corner.
