I stopped by tonight on my way home. I was looking for parts for the fuel system on my 25. John basically told me that he's not putting much effort into the Classic Whalers anymore, because he losing his shirt doing it. Said that it amounted to people wasting his time discussing stuff over and over, but never spending on a mid to high margin item in his shop. Its really very sad. He has a 22 Outrage Cuddy in good condition, and a wide variety of minor Cetaeca at his shop. I don't know what is his or his customers. Also a fairly good selection of parts, including:
a leaning post with rear seat and rocket launchers (Small outrage only or montauk)
Mills canvas (at leat 3 sun tops, for 17s and 18s)
Several hatch covers, both teak ang glass.
and a wide variety of parts in general.
We spoke about the new BW dealership here in Fairfield county, Surfside 3. I said that they were not very helpful to me, and did not seem to have a lot of knowledge about the older whalers. He said that they did have the knowledge, but because they know that is a low margin business, they pretend not to know as an easy way out of wasting time with me (us).
I'd like to help this guy out. I remember a post about him earlier in the year from a former customer of his. Stated that he was one of the good guys.
What should I do:
a) turn him on to the site?
b) get a list of his general inventory, and post it to the site with his phone number?
c) don't try and solve the worlds problems, I have enough of my own.
