Can someone tell me what the proper outboard shaft length should be for a 1973 Cohasset/Montauk? short, regular, long? What year were the lengths changed and on what models, I'm confused....Thanks

20" shaft is what you want. This used to be (and is still by some) called a "long" shaft but now is commonly refered to as a "standard" shaft.

All the 16'/17' Whalers were and are this shaft length; never was a change. The 13' Whaler changed from a 15" to a 20" in, I believe, the 1973 model year. This change occured to the hull thus all models of the 13' changed.
