On a 20' Outrage, where would you recommend installing a depth sounding transducer. I have failed with mounting one in the bilge. Was wondering if the hull core is too thick for this method? Should I drill or mount on transom?

Tradition,

I mounted my transducer in the deck sump area aft of deck tunnel. This is the only location on my 19-6 Outrage where a thru-hull transducer would work. I did however have to extend the length of the mounting tube in order to reach all the way through the hull. I accomplished this by threading a piece of brass tubing to match the diameter of tube and then joining them together with a threaded coupler. I also had to make a coustom fairing block. It may seem like a bit of work but I think the added performance is worth the trouble. I have had bad luck with transom mounted ducers in the past, particularly when planing at speed.

My reference article on transducers addresses all these questions.
