Keep forgetting to ask this, i really would like a tach for the old 72 20hp johnson, but have never done one on a mag powered engine. Is it any different? The only tachs I see are 70.00 at the fancy boat stores and I dont know if it will work. Was thinking of trying a local old school harley shop near me, though not water proof( well, salt water at least) I thought it might work, be cheaper, and smaller. The boat is on a diet till I get a bigger motor! ( Hey, it was either the boat or me! I won! )

Go to and get a Quicksilver Service Monitor. There tagged by Mercury and cost about $60. They are small, digital, waterproof, shockproof, has a tach, hourmeter and reset button. I think they can work for your engine, one wire wraps 4 times around a sparkplug wire and the other goes to a ground(basicly any bolt on the block) and thats it. You can velcro or tape it right on the engine like what im planning to do when i get one. Hope this helps-Erik
