I am sure anyone who has been keeping up with the World Series has seen the new Mastercard commercial where the two guys are driving around the country visiting Major League ballparks. When they get to New York they are shown on a classic whaler of some kind. WHAT MODEL WAS IT? I thought it might have been a Montauk.

Oh yeah, I nudged my (half-asleep) wife, and said "Whaler!". I think her reaction was something like "uh", to which I replied, "Montauk, and check out that 19-window bus!". "cool" she said, then fell back to sleep. Anyway, I was excited. AND the Yanks won-great night.

19 windows in that bus? Was that a special VW edition? What year? |

I've seen that commercial 2x. Both times I didn't get a good enough look at it. I did notice it didn't have a front railing. I wonder if they took it off for the shoot. And for some reason I thought I noticed a wood consol (not a Montauk) but I'm not sure. |

It is a Montauk, probably special ordered for the rental fleet. Also, the concept for the commerical is not fantasy. You can rent these boats from a livery in Sausalito, just across the Golden Gate from Pac Bell Park. We were planning to enjoy a Giants game from our Montauk late this summer until the frenzy over Barry Bonds home-run balls caused the city to close McCovey cove to motorized craft. I suppose we could have still anchored out just beyond the "splash landing" zone, but it wouldn't have been the same without the chance to take home a souvenir. As a baseball fan, I think that ad campaign is great. I can't wait to see the Yankee Stadium stop on their tour! |

Having not seen the commercial, it quite possibly may have been a much coveted 21 window bus. (remember, the windshields tilt open too). http://www.classicshowcase.com/1967vw21win.htm Compare this picture.I've only owned 3 VW's so far... you should see the BW 15' Sport behind the Corrado. :) |

I dunno....seeing that andygere not only lives in CA AND has 2 Whalers AND seems pretty knowledgeable on the subject I'll have to give the nod to him when he says it's a Montauk. |

I am going to agree. Looked like a Montauk minus the rails to me. Sorry andygere on getting the location wrong. I was so intune with the boat that I assumed it was NYC. I hope you don't consider it a slap in the face! Then again the Yankees are still playing and the Giants (and Brewers) are fishing. Not sure where I would rather be. ck |

Sorry, guys, it probably was a 21-window bus. There was a 23-window also, wasn't there? |

Hey guys, no harm no foul. I used to paddle kayaks near the place that rented the Montauks, so I wasn't surprised the first time I saw the ad. They have been running a longer version of the commercial that focuses on Pac Bell Park, and it shows more views of the boat and the location. The one I've seen during the World Series is sort of a medley of several ads, and only offers a glimpse of the Whaler. For the record, I was born and bred a Yankee fan (I grew up back east), but have become a die hard Giants since living on the West Coast. |

I'm not sure if it is a 15 or a Montauk, but the guys are definitely heading to McCovey Cove at PacBell Park in San Francisco.Go D-Backs

Short for western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox), the only rattlesnake I've run into that never seems to back down from a confrontation. Seems like they are still rattling long after you walk around "their" section of trail and continue on. And maybe they will be world champions. I guess we'll know in a couple of hours ;-) |
