The winds finally backed off yesterday, and I had the opportunity to get on the Gulf. This was my first offshore trip since getting the electronics and baitwell installed. The morning bite was good, but brief, and I ended up running to Egmont channel, the shipping channel to Tampa Bay. The channel terminates at the western end at the Whistler Bouy, about 15 miles offshore. I ran out there to have a look. I admit it was as much to be able to say that I'd been there as anything. I was thinking that I would have had about the smallest boat out there. There was a couple of guys in a flats boat drifting next to the bouy, with one of them sitting on the poling platform. It was really calm. Great day, even if the fishing wasn't. I felt so comfortable in my boat, even with a 25 mile run to the pass where I launched.
