I want to apologize to any member that I have insulted and made feel bad about the campaign for jimh. I have been quiet lately do to recent developements in my own company. I've had to lay 2 people off this week who have been with me for 5+ years. We have been hanging in there as long as we could, my accountant and banker told me it was time a while ago, but yesterday our best customer cancelled a big contract with us. Reading Bones post made me feel bad about the way I went after money for jimh. To all those I have offended I apologize. Regards, Jay

No offence taken.
I was laid off 6 weeks ago due to the downturn in the recreational marine industry. I've been in this industry for 35+ years and have seen many ups and downs, but none as bad as this one. Guess it's time to take my social security and semi retire.

jimh deserves a reward for his effort in maitaining this site and I can't believe enyone would take offence at your efforts to raise the funds.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry about the trouble your company is experiencing. It's difficult making those tough decisions because you know you are affecting someone else's life and livelihood. Hope things turn around for you.

Sorry about your own fortunes/misfortunes, JFM, and yours, too, Dick.

Frankly, I have been irritated by your nagging. I appreciate what Jim has done here, as I am sure we all do.

I don't think that has anything to do with why he does it or what he expects from it. To be honest, I think awards/gift certificates, etc. cheapen the ends of this forum.

I think we can best honor Jim's contributions by following Jim's example and eliminating the elitism and the ego contests from out posts, and treat ALL of our fellow boaters and Whaler enthusiasts with courtesy and respect.

Jay- You are doing a great job. Thanks. Maybe we should think about a nominal annual membership fee. David

I know it's not for me to say, but I believe it would be good to have one webpage set aside for "sponsor" links. A link to, A link to a computer supplies place, and of course several links to westmarine, mills canvas and other marine supply companies that pay a percentage for referrals. These are items we have to buy anyway, so might as well have the convenience and have the percentage go to Jim. Otherwise amazon and other companies pocket it.

JB Cornwell, you are undoubted a well educated and gifted man. I would not challenge that. I also think that you are a very fortunate man. However, your opinion on this subject I think is shared by only you. I have been a business owner for 25 years and people do appreciate awards for there good deeds, and if anyone deservse one more than Jim I don't know who. So please let me go about my way to try to give something back to Jim without any more of your opinions. Regards, Jay

I am truly sorry if I offended you, Jay, and I certainly agree that Jim deserves recognition and appreciation for his work. I guess my idea of how those things are best expressed are a bit different than most.

I have a few plaques and certificates tucked away in drawers, but what I treasure most are personal notes from former students and proteges. Nobody prompted them or solicited their input. Thus, to me, their genuineness is unquestionable.

I withdraw my "opinion" that ruffled your feathers and wish you success in your venture.
