My 1998 cat. shows the 21 Outrage to be differn't to the 2000 cat. Most notable is the aft seats and motor well. Also the listed weight of the 2000 is 3000 lbs. the 1998 is 2500 lbs.. The HP rating is also differn't 1998 max. is 300 and the 2000 is 250. Regards, Jay |

One more difference is the console of the 2000 can accomodate a port-a-potty, the 1998 can't. Jay |

I'm not speaking from a base of first-hand knowledge here, but I have had the impression that the classic 22 recreational hull ended with the '92 season??kingfish |

I'm positive the last 22 classic (other than CPD) was a 1995 - I almost bought one.Louie |

The first 22' appeared in the summer of 1978 for the 1979 model year. It was called the V-22.The first time I saw one was while I was cruising the San Juan Islands with a buddy of mine in his 16' home made Menemsha (née Katama) in August of '78. I was fifteen years old and already a total Whaler head. We put into Friday Harbor on San Juan Island where there used to be a Boston Whaler dealer and as we were walking up from the marina we passed the dealership and I saw this big boat that said Boston Whaler on it but was unlike any Whaler I had ever seen. My God! I thought, it's so unWhaler like. What is this?! Of course we inquired and found out this was the new model. I can remember thinking that I didn't really like this "new" Whaler. It wasn't like the old ones. Sound familiar? |

This is good information. I'll try to distill it into a REFERENCE page on the 22-Outrage sometime soon. What was the evolution from the V-22 to the "classic-22" hullform. I think the deadrise was increased, right? |

Regarding the 22, my 1979 catalog shows it as a new boat in 1979, as Tom mentioned. It had a red rubrail insert.Kingfish - The 1993 catalog shows the 22 & 25's, but not the 1994 catalog. In 1994, they brought out the Reebock hulled 21 & 24 Outrages to replace the Classics, based on the previous 21 & 23 Walkaround hulls. I have yet to see a 1993 22 or 25. Very few were sold, as the company was pushing the new white hulls full speed ahead. I remember asking a Dealer why he had no '93 22 or 25's on his lot. His answer: nobody wants any of those old, out of date hulls any longer. Yea, right! |

jimh, I don't think the 22' hull changed at all but the first 20' which similarly was call the V-20 was redesigned in 1985 for the 1986 model year. In this case the deadrise was increased. |
