I know this isn't about Whalers, but Jim's post reminded me of a compilation of poems that my father put together while he was a POW in Germany after his B-17 was shot down. I thought this one was meaningful considering our current military activities.
A Prison Prayer
Lord guard and guide the men who fly,
Through the great spaces of the sky.
Protect them as they take the air,
In morning light and sunshine fair.
Eternal Father strive to save,
Give them courage and make them brave.
Protect them where so ever they go,
From shell and flak, and fire and foe.
Most loved member of the crew,
Ride with them up in the blue.
Drop their bombs upon the foe,
But shelter those whom thou doest know.
Guide them well upon their way,
Grant their work success today.
Protect them from hate and sin,
Bring them safely down again.
Lord guide and guard the men who fly,
Through their lonely way across the sky.
