I saw you and your beautiful whaler out on the waterways in Fort Lauderdale on the first. I tried to hail you on CH 16, but I guess you did not have your VHF on, and you were too far away for me to try to chase you down with all the traffic that was out there yesterday. Hope you had fun, its always nice to be able to use the boat in the middle of winter.
I think bow pendants or decals would be an excellent idea, for fellow forum members to recognize each other while out on the water.

I would love to have the opportunity to design a decal! I think they would be great to have!

This is at least the third time the idea of a decal/pennant/burgee has been suggested - and I too think it is a excellent idea.
A "go-ahead" from Jim might be what's needed to get the ball rolling. It appears that we have all the talent and resources among the forum members that would be required to make it happen.
The first step in the any design process is brainstorming - in this case, what kind of visual elements, colors and or words would best represent our group? (keeping in mind there are some copyright issues with using the BW logo).
If the group would generate some ideas, I'm sure the graphics people among us could produce some artwork for consideration.

Whaler4me: Sorry I missed you on New Years Day! You're right, I did not have the radio on. You should have caught up with me, it would have been fun to meet you. Sorry to say, I'm back up here in the cold country now!
I am amazed to see what a wide range of audience this website actually has, when one member actually recognizes another's Whaler out on the water, in another part of the country. I've had it happen several times now.

Well, you'll just have to let this website when you go on your next trip so we can keep an eye out for you.
Maybe next time.

Hey guys, I'm gonna call my girlfriend (head of marketing) over at Whaler and see what she thinks of me designing something. Then maybe send something off to Jim.

Janis - The word around here is that the folks at BW aren't real fond of this website.
It will be interesting to hear what she says.

This question is intended non-confrontationally, because I think good intentions abound, but why would we be concerned or curious about what BW Marketing has to say on the subject of a few boat owner's potential desire to design a pennant or burgee to help themselves recognize each other?
Unless the planning and development are done off-line of this forum, it would seem to me the first opinion we need is JimH's.
*Then* (if JimH's opinion is in the affirmative) decisions could be made as to whether or to what degree the design would incorporate anything BW might consider an infringement of their rights. I don't see what question we currently have to ask them.
Not meaning to be obtuse-

I agree with KF. Let's put together some ideas and maybe a few designs and see what we come up with. I'm sure we can design something that doesn't infringe on any copywrite, design. etc. laws.

I have asked jimh about this in the past. He indicated that HE would like to design a logo for HIS website and would try to do something this year. We all have good intentions about this but we have to remember this is HIS site not Whaler's. Regards, Jay

regarding" running lhg's whalelure down or catching up to him"?...that's probably not something my 40 mph+/- boat is capable of..unless i caught him in a no wake zone.ho ho....lm

lhg, did you have the 25 or 18 down south this winter? I know the 18 is easier to trailer, but that big ol' 25 looks like a lot of fun for running down to the keys or anywhere else in the great state of Florida.

I also saw the 25' Whale Lure docked in Hillsboro Beach, Florida recently. Truely a beauty! Is this it's winter home?
Only a handful of locations in Florida offer property that spans from the ocean to the Intracostal Waterway, as in Hillsboro Beach. This is Florida living at it's best.
Another Whaler living the good life!

We used to have a place in Deerfield Beach and I used to love the constant boat parade of the Intracoastal. Are you ever in the Naples area, Larry?

Kingfish - if I understand Janis's comment correctly, I think, because her Magic Brush whaler decal company is licensed by them, she wanted to find out if BW would approve of her getting involved in this logo thing. I see it as trying to make a few bucks with continuouswave, but not antagonizing Whaler.
A different perspective than where most of us here are coming from. That's why I was interested in what they said - to help us understand how the Company looks at this site.
Jim - yes, my 25 has "wintered" in Florida since new. I entertained JimH and wife on it last Feburary for a few days. Unfortunately, most of that time is spent in the dry storage rack, only being in the water when I can get away during the winter, which is not as often as I would like!
RussBel - The next time you see the boat, stop by, as it means I'm down there. It would be nice to meet you and go for a spin. Have I seen you go by? Thanks for the compliment on the boat. See the picture in Cetacea page 1 for it docked in FL.

Thanks for the clarification, Larry - I missed that subtlety.

I was out putting around in a rented Aquasport around Port Royal and in the Gulf on Jan 1. I'll keep an eye out for you next year!
