We went to the Atlanta Boat Show today. I love looking at all the shiney new boats. My daughter was disappointed that there were no bumper boats this year. The sea lion show was probably just as good in her opinion.

The only Whaler with a price tag on her was the 13' with 25 horsepower 4 stroke Mercury and trailer for $8,995.

This year there was a Montauk on display. One tag stated $1,500 OFF and another stated payments as low as $237 Per Month.

I was a litle insulted I only got $1,300 OFF when I purchased from the same dealer last year.

This particular Montauk had a rear seat and a swim platform. The only difference from my 2001, was the throttle looked different. I also noticed, no fuel tanks were in the boat.

I saw an Edgewater with a 90 outboard that looked remarkably like a Montauk. In the salesmans pitch he compared her to a Whaler. All I had to do was look at the finish under the forward hatch and knock on the hull to see there really was no comparison. He said she went for $17-$18 K.

I went Friday night. That was the most representation that I remember Whaler having at the show in a long time. I wish someday they would have some of the bigger Whalers at the show. I looked pretty hard at the 17 to 20 foot boats. Whaler stacks up pretty well in my opinion. I looked at the Edgewater also, and was not as impressed as I have been in the past. There were also some other boats I found interesting. While not as finished, the Cape Horn seems solid. I could not find a Bombadier motor booth or display. There were plenty of the Yamaha 225's around. I liked the show this year. Kelly

We went to the show last night (Saturday) and had a great time as well. We looked long and hard to find anything as useful as a whaler and alas it was futile. We are divers more than fishermen and are always looking for a better platform to dive from. While the whalers aren’t designed as exclusive dive boats they are still the only option to us without having something custom built. The 21’ Ventura caught our eye this year. But I think we will stick with the outrage. A note on discounts: If your buy the last of the year model you are naturally getting the biggest discount. Mercury is extending their warranty to five years on the OptiMax and of coarse there are the rebates. Our salesman claims the difference between a 2001 Ventura 21’ and the same boat in 2002 is about $9000 after discounts and rebates. I wonder what the difference was last year?
