Old "Sourpus" Hulls

I always wondered how the old "Sourpus" Outrage 19'and 21' outrages handled? They looked so good for general family type boating/fishing with low sides for kids to jump from and crawl back in- I ended up buying a 1978 20' Outrage- one of the new hulls back then, but also heavy. I think a tank could drive over it without any hull damage....just wondered how the earlier low hulls performed- Thanks Dave Murray

My understanding is the newer design incorporates a 16 degree deadrise vs. 14 (or 12?) degrees on the older OR. This make for a slightly bumpier ride.
I local fishing guide I know that's owns both, confirms this.

In a word.....rough. A 21' rides the same, possibly worse then a newer 18' Outrage hull.
It's a tradeoff. My 21' hull came out of the shop, after renovation and a 150Merc weighing 1960lbs, less canvas and fuel tank, tows very well and is easy to get back into, even without a ladder and can run in very shallow water. Draws about 9".
