Does anyone rembember what year the Montauk
ad ran with two boats leaving the inlet one
a 50 foot Hatteras and the other a Montauk. I have been searching my archives and have missed it so far. I did see a few ads that caught my eye one being a Boston Whaler Catamarn anyone know what it was? power or sail.

Thanks for your help.

Sam

Sam,

That photo was used for a few years around 1980. The catamaran was a sail boat called the Super Cat, a non-foam filled hull(s) produced in Califonia. Super Cat was an existing company that Whaler bought.

I have a 1987 BW catalog which has that photo in it. Rather heavy seas that day; a fantastic photo.

Sam - that photo first appeared in the 1979 catalog. It was also used in the 1980, 1981 and 1983 catalogs, and others as mentioned above.

It shows that for years, BW marketed the Montauk as an offshore capable boat. The picture shows it without a kicker, however, which could leave the boat in trouble in big seas if the engine failed. Hope they had a sea anchor on board!
