maverick	posted 01-09-2002 09:33 PM ET (US)         After reading the post below about the Portland boat show, I got a great idea. As it appears Whaler seems to be getting less and less notoriety, perhaps that's good in a way, as perhaps that part of the "group" could be bought. In some seriousness, why couldn't a group with a few bucks and a lot of passion band together and BUY out the classic line and run it, like a Harley Davidson operation? Let's see, there's about a hundred+ of us on this site, at what, $10-100k each for a percentage/share...hmm, how much would Whaler Classic be worth...? Yeah, I know I'm dreaming that this could even work, but ain't it great idea? Mav

LarrySherman	posted 01-09-2002 11:39 PM ET (US)             Count me in for 10. It would be a great investment. Problem is, Brunswick would never sell. The classic line would compleatly undermine the sales of post-classic whalers.
Kelly	posted 01-10-2002 08:41 AM ET (US)             I think that is an interesting idea and I might like to be part of any effort, but it seems to me that the window of opportunity has already passed for the time being. First, from what I understand the "classic" hulls would basically be the CPD division, or at least a big part of it. It is my understanding that the CPD division is doing very well right. Second, it is my understanding that Whaler has already committed to a new Montauk (classic lines, wider, lower price) that will be unveiled at the Miami boat show. If that is true, they are not about to sell that name. Just my opinion. Kelly
GAwhale	posted 01-10-2002 10:43 AM ET (US)             Great Idea! But it will never work. Several Ex-Eastern Air Lines pilots each kicked in 50K to start KIWI Air Lines in Atlanta. It was a big flop. The lesson to me: It's easy to play armchair quarterback.
