I am thinking about buying a 11' used whaler with a 15 HP johnson on it. Can anyone tell me about these boats and how they perform? What do you think the top speed of this would be with one 140 lb person in it, or 2 people? Is it dry ride? Any info would be great. Thanks -Ben

A friend of mine has an 11 with a 35 Evinrude
and it does 40+ mph. With a 15 Johnson; I can only say that our KMV 10'(a heavy boat) does 20mph with a Merc 15.
I find that the 11 behaves alot like a 13: It has a firm ride, likes to slide when turned to starboard, and likes to slide and 'dig in' when turned to port ( these conditions occur with more aggressive planing turns). This is due to the driver's weight on the starboard side. The ride is relatively dry in most chop, considering how low the freeboard is.With the motor trimmed in too much, the odd spray does come over the bow, in a chop. With two people to balance it out, the boat generally handled better.
This is my only experience with an 11; hope this helps - F

The listed weight of the boat is 210 lbs. a 13' is 360. I would think you could plane with and cruise rather well with a 15hp. Whaler says min. hp 5 max.10.. Hope that helps. Regards, Jay

I prefered my 13' to the 11', both had 35 hp Johnsons. The 13' had a smoother ride because of the added length, and had a more user friendly interior.

I have an 11' Tender with a Merc 9.9. It does about 21 with me on it 210lbs but it goes about 24 with my son 100lbs. I bought it for my kids to scoot around the marsh in, but I enjoy taking it to fish the creeks. The 9.9 seems to do ok but it sure feels like a 15 or 20 is what it needs.
