This article to which Sorcerer has referred us, has the most patently false statement in it I have ever seen. Bombardier is way out of line. Their publicity people seem to be out of control. What do you think? "Bombardier is the leading supplier of outboard engines for the US Navy, US Army, US Marine Corp & US Coast Guard agencies, said McLeod." Since THEIR first engine rolled off the assembly line on October 15th 2001, they must have one heck of a sales force to accomplish this in 3 months, especially since they only got approved today! Thank God for Bombardier, because without THEIR Ficht outboard engines, the US Armed Forces on the water would evidently be out of business! This Ficht reliability must be a legend, and only in 3 short months. I have yet to see one of THEIR new motors on the water in FL. I guess they've all gone to the Navy Seals units. The statement should have been something like this: "Before going bankrupt, the US based Outboard Marine Corporation corporation was the leading supplier....... |

I agree that Bombardier's claim is false. I guess they're desperate to try and sell (or give away) engines to get them out in the market place again. Too little too late. Stick to Seadoo's and Snow mobiles. |

Actually, I think its good news all around. I dismiss the marketing stuff for what it is. Certianly nothing to get excited about. I can't name a company who hasn't had a VP who stuck his/her foot in thier mouth, given the opportunatity. |

Regardless of the 'spin' in the article, we will all benefit by a very successful OMC/Johnson line. Yamaha's dominance of the market will only lead to higher prices, less technology development, and more dependence on foreign products. I for one hope and pray Bomb gets it right! |

Hey lhg, Bombardier didn't make those statements. The guy who wrote for "Market Outlook" did. I agree a strong Bombardier is a good thing for boating. |

Dick - What do I have against Bombardier? Only two things. (1) Patently false advertizing and comments like the above. I am assuming this guy McLeod works for them, and was not misquoted. There is no way they could have DELIVERED enough engines since October 15th to the US Military to be it's LEADING SUPPLIER of outboards. They are also saying they are delivering engines to the Genmar boat companies. This is more like it, and where their best chance of sales exist. To be a SUPPLIER, you must have first DELIVERED the goods, not raving about possible prospective orders and acceptance on a bid list. And we all know how long it takes to get sales through to the Government! (2) Their "Sea Doo Doo" purple and yellow, ugly, incredibly noisy, jet powered monstrosities, both jet skis and jet boats, are part of the destruction of enjoyment on many of the waterways of this county. At least their contraptions are helping get the necessary "bans" in place! Bombardier's McCleod put his foot in his mouth, not me. I'm only passing along this false information for others to come to THEIR own conclusion. The jet boat/ski lovers will obviously disagree, as well they should. I have nothing against their soon to be available new Ficht engines. They might even be better than the Yamahas, as they say they are going to be. And I agree, Mercury and Yamaha could use a little more competition, with their approximate combined 85% market share, as could we all in our respective businesses. The marine industry in general is, and always has been, way overpriced. Somebody recently made a lot of sense comparing a new pickup truck, complete with a 200HP 4-stroke engine, to the new Honda 4 stroke outboard. It is a joke, indeed, these high prices. False and misleading advertising is a huge problem these days, and I don't think consumers should tolerate it. For me, it's enough to avoid products from companies that engage in these deceptive practices, regardless of what the product is. |

lhg is right, also the fact that they have a GSA contract does NOT mean the government is endorsing them! It simply means that they have accepted a contract with the government to sell certain items at a given price (sometimes discounted/sometimes not). The process of government procurement is a lot more complex than this ad makes it sound. Jim Armstrong |
