Hello all,
I am buying a 1985 27ft full cabin with twin 225 yamahas (2000) I would like to know if anyone has owned one, and what they think about it. I will be fishing out of eastern long island ( shinnecick inlet ) How does this boat take the rough water and chop.
Thanks, Dennis

Hello Dennis,

Well what kind of fishing you going to do out of the Shinnecick Mist on 62 Canoe Place Rd (Motel) out in the Hamptons with this 27 FC? If it's the kind I'm thinking of you won't have to worry to much how the boat handles hah hah ;)

The hull design makes them a little skittish, takes a good hand on the helm when the inlet is snotty. You want it trimmed slightly up so to prevent crashing through.
Since the hull in relative terms for a 27 is light weight. The cabin structure makes it sensitive to any significant wind shifts. Trim is also an area where weight placement must be considered.

Once out from Shinnecock in the typical rollers, unless the frequency is very short, she'll will roll/troll along nicely. If you have the Whalerdrive it offers additional stability.

The boat isn't by any means an all weather one. You can get out in some nasty stuff that only the big boys might make a go, there is a limitation. How much you physically/mentally can handle pounding and how much do you want to subject the boat to it.

That said I have not owned one, have ridden in 3. We do own a 27 Walk around and a 27 cc cuddy. The 27 ccc handles the best in "rough" water with just the standard transom. The 27 WA handles similar to your FC.

PS regardless of the nice shiny newer motors, I would have a survey done. These aren't your little Outrages with spartan systems a lot more to the 27 than meets the eye and you want to know what's what. Best couple hundred you'd spend to have a full report on the credible elements so you can have things ship shape for Spring time

I will be striper and fluke fishing off of mecox and the castle and taking a run out to montauk once in a while. I have lived here in hampton bays for the last few years and have fished shinnecock on a 21 ft aquasport, never had much trouble in the inlet, of course I pick my days. What I really want to do is go off shore once in a while and get the tuna in close, take a week in montauk, I had the yamahas before and they not only shine but they work.
