Would a 1991 17' Outrage constitute a Classic whaler. I was under the impression that this would not be a Classic, since it was a 1991 model, but when I read through the specifications on the boat from Boston Whaler, it is showing that it was part of the production out of Rockland Mass. Thus, would it be viewed as a Classic?

Regardless, we have had this Whaler for the past two years after owning a couple of Sea Rays ('86 250 and '92 Sea Ray 290 Sun Dancers) in the past and think that the Whaler is a great boat and it a heck of a lot more fun to have.

Best regards.

DW,

Yes, it is considered a "Classic" because it was designed by Bob Dougherty and thus has a very close lineage to the other Classic Whaler hulls. It also has the benefit of being made with the Desert Tan/Outrage Gray color scheme. The Outrage 17 was, in fact, the last of the Classics and a fine one at that.

DW and pascal,

Here's a little information about Whalers...

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/specifications.html

and

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/

I currently have a 1991 17' Outrage and it's a great boat...much more substantial than the Montauk, ligher and easier to handle than the 18' Outrage...it's a really nice comtination of the two...has a 120hp rating and a 34 gallon fuel tank and with that super sized console, you can store a lot of stuff in there...I moved up from a 1989 Newtauk and even thought that boat has it's advantages, shallower draft, less HP, very utilitatian...they still don't compare to the Outrage...both will go just about anywhere but the Outrage would be a little bit more comfortable...

Good luck with the Outrage...

Pascal - that number is the Hull Identification Number required by the US Government to be placed on all boats made in this country after about 1972 or so.

The First 3 letters after the US, are a manufacturer code, and the last 2 numbers signify the model year of the boat. So that number tells you that indeed, the hull you are looking at is a 1991 Boston Whaler.
