I am wondering if the stock lifting eyes on my 13' GLS can support the weight of the boat, plus 500 pounds or so. I would like to put this boat up on my davits to keep it out of the water, but want to make sure it's the safe thing to do. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Keysnole, it will work just fine. I have a 13 with 40 Mariner hanging on a pair of Ace davits (rated 500lbs each) with manual winches and it works great. Hook cables to inside of stern eyes... Happy Whalin'.. Clark.. Spruce Creek Navy

Thanks Clark. My main concern is the boat holding its weight with two or three people in it, while being lifted up. My seawall at low tide is too high to get in and out of my 13'.

I don't know if the added weight of 3 people will do any damage...maybe Chuck Bennett at "" can advise.. in any case you will need a lift (cradle or cables which will handle the anticipated total gross weight!

Not a good idea to be in while lifting. I have seen them break before. The lifting eyes are strong, the cable is the weak link.

Thanks for the input guys. I will be using both of my davits, not a cradle. My davits are rated for 10,000 pounds, so there won't be any trouble with the cables. I'm going to email Whaler anyways just to be extra sure. Thanks.

My 13' Classic was a tendre on a 55' Hatteras
There was a livting plate attached to the front bulkhead behind the forward locker,,in the rear they used the transom lifting rings inside the transom,,,,
