Looking to buy the latest GPS (not portable) and I want COLOR. I've been told that Garmin is the best , also because it can use the "BLUE CHART" I also want a screen that i can see approximately 4-7 inches diag. Don't want to have to use my glasses to read the GPS. Also don't want to spend for a northstar.Looking for input from all you whaler people The one that I like the most is the 2006C

I'd look at the Garmin 2006C, Garmin 182C, Standard 170C, and maybe the Garmin 176C, though I suspect its screen isn't big enough for you. Get a look at them in sun (assuming they are going to be on your console).Standard's charts will be as good as BlueChart. Skip the Garmin 215/225, they are about five years old now. There are other brands that are as good a Garmin, but Garmin has the broadest line and great customer service. Chuck

I have the 235 on my Montauk.I can read it without my glasses. The new Garmins are beautiful. I saw one at the boat show. The quality of the blue chart exceeds that of the G-chart I use. I'll keep using the one I have for a while. BTW, Garmin has been very good on customer support and service. Took care of me when the transponder went to lunch and took the sounder with it. |
