i am the owner of a 16 foot whaler. hull #3a1412. my title says 1969, but looking at the hull charts here it is probably a 1970. i have not been able to determing the model so far. it seems to be a nauset, but i do not have the fixed seat. when i bought it in 1984 it had (still has) an igloo 152 qt. cooler for the seat. i was told some time ago it may have started out as a bare hull and someone bought the wooden center console as a kit (it looks like the mahagony ones in the pictures). does anyone have any theories on which model i have. this is an extremely awesome web site. thank you very much.

Your boat was most likely made in 1969 as a 1970 model. It could be a Nauset, Sakonnet or Eastport all with the same (stand up, center) console. Other details of your boat would help differentiate which of these three models is is (was).

Are there screw holes in the stern where a stern bench might have been at one time? Is or was there a wood seat in fron of the console?

Post a picture of your boat and you'll get all the answers you're looking for and more.

thank you tom,
i do not see any screw holes near the stern. the center console did have a seat attached to it (i did not put it back on when i built the new console). it looks very similar to the pictures of the nausets on the site except for the fixed seat. one picture on the site shows what appears to be a 152 qt. igoo aft of the seat.

Your boat most likely is a Nauset. Both the Nauset and Eastport would have had the console seat whereas the Sakonnet would have had a bow platform instead.

The 152 qt. cooler has nothing to do with it, it was added later, probably as a replacement for the "church pew" seat.

p.s., feel free to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper names. There's no extra charge for using them here.
