I found a 1971 outrage with a 175 johnson detuned to 155 hp? I think the motor is around a 1985 model, it also comes with a decent galvenized tandem axle trailer. Is it worth the $6500.00 the owner is asking?,its in pretty good shape but needs a little tlc. From what i can tell he detuned it with a thicker headgasket to lower compression. He says he has had it since new, and has taken it 80 miles off the md coast. This design has a vey low gunhull height,is it a very seaworthy design?

Bob, you don't mention the length of the boat , but the 19'&21' Outrages are great boats. I have a 1976 19' Outrage, which I've had a couple of years now.I'm a big guy,so I love the stability it has.Even with 3 good size people on board, it remains stabil. As far as seaworthyness goes, I boat on Lake Michigan, and feel comfortable going out in rough water with it.(4' to 6'). The boat will take more than you will. I'm told the 21' rides better than the 19'. As far as price goes, I'd say that's in the ballpark.I paid about the same amount, and have repowered since I purchased it. I think just the hull is worth 6K, especially if it is a 21'. I hope this helps your decsion making process. Outraged |

I have a 1973 19'4"bought used in 1988.It is a very seaworthy boat.I have had it out in true 10 foot waves on Lake Erie(not by choice}and it handled it fine.I would put this boat up against any boat its size for stability and ride.It has 3 times the storage of newer 18' Classics. They are great fishing and all around boats that are truly unique. If you decide not to buy this boat give me the phone # If one is good two is better.I have taken occasional waves over the transom while trolling.Just lift your feet and set them on the rear seat while it self bails down to a dry floor. If it is in decent shape buy it. |
